Email template builder

Updated

Emails are laid out in a table-based HTML structure that renders reliably across mail clients. The builder generates that for you from a list of blocks.

The blocks

| Block | Use | |---|---| | Text | Headings and paragraphs | | Image | Logos and pictures, with alt text | | Button | A clear call to action | | Divider | A visual break | | Spacer | Vertical space | | Social | Links to your profiles | | HTML | Your own markup for anything else |

Page-level styles (background colour, content colour, font and text colour) apply to the whole email.

Templates

Start from a blank email or a ready-made one. Templates are grouped by purpose: newsletter, promotion, welcome, product launch, sale, event, announcement, transactional and custom. Save your own, duplicate any template, and edit the copy without touching the original.

Personalisation

Merge tags such as the first name, last name and email address are filled in when the email is sent. The same syntax, with double braces around a name, works for your own fields in API sends.

One template, three places

  • Campaigns: pick it as the starting point of a campaign.
  • Automations: use it as the email step in a journey.
  • Transactional API: send it by template_id and pass values in template_data. See the API reference.

Writing help

The AI assistant can draft an email from a brief, rewrite or shorten copy, change tone, translate, and run a spam-risk check on the result.

Practical tips

  • Keep the layout to a single column. It is the layout that survives every client.
  • Always add alt text to images, because many clients block images by default.
  • Keep important content as live text rather than baked into an image.
  • Send a test to several mailbox providers before sending to a list.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to know HTML?
No. The editor is visual. If you do know HTML, an HTML block lets you paste your own markup.
Can I use the same template for campaigns and the API?
Yes. Templates are stored once. Reference one by its template_id when you send through the transactional API, and fill its merge tags from template_data.
